BRAND-X ARTIST SERIES: DREW BROPHY - We’re stoked to be the first location in California (aside from his own shop) that sells skateboards and artwork by the amazing, Drew Brophy
We’re starting with three of his amazing creations all done with 7-ply Canadian Hardrock Maple in the USA
1) "Tribute to Rick Griffin" Longboard Deck - Approximate Size: 10" x 40"
THE INSPIRATION FOR THIS ART PIECE:
"Tribute to Rick Griffin" is a painting that Drew did on a surfboard to honor the late, great, Rick Griffin, an artist who inspired many after him.
The character at the bottom of the painting is Drew's representation of Rick Griffin himself, as one of his characters, inspired by Hopi Indian works.
Drew believes that Griffin was enlightened, he understood and saw things differently. His ideas and art were innovative, only a handful of artists were doing radical art like Griffin at that time period.
#2) MiOcean Longboard Deck - Approximate Size: 10" x 40"
DREW SAYS OF THE INSPIRATION FOR THE ART: "This artwork was originally painted on a surfboard and is, by far, one of my favorite paintings. It was a commissioned piece for the charity MiOcean. The surfboard painting was auctioned off at their annual event at St. Regis Resort in Dana Point.
The painting depicts a giant sandcastle with my wife Maria in the window holding a torch, and our son Dylan looking through a telescope at the top. I’m the guy surfing in the tube, alongside giant kelp and fish. The sun is exploding on the horizon.
#3) DEEP INTO PARADISE" 8.5”x33” Deck
DREW SAYS OF THE INSPIRATION FOR THIS ART PIECE:
"When I'm paddle boarding on the open ocean, I get to see all kinds of creatures. I love being that close to nature; the view, while standing on a paddleboard, goes down deep under water.
You can see all kinds of crazy looking ocean life. Some of the creatures you get to see are gnarly. And then my imagination goes wild. This painting is a visual of what I see."
